The Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology (MJLST) is pleased to invite proposals for our biennial symposium, which will take place in the Spring of 2026. This year’s symposium, titled “The Evolving Landscape of Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Law,” will explore the growing legal, regulatory, and societal implications of data protection in the digital age.

The 2025 MJLST Symposium will explore the evolving legal frameworks shaping data privacy and cybersecurity, with a focus on the complex intersection of technology, regulation, and individual rights. Potential areas of discussion include recent and pending updates to state and federal privacy laws (such as the Minnesota Consumer Data Privacy Act and California’s Delete Act), cross-border data transfer frameworks, biometric privacy, cybersecurity incident response and liability, vendor management, and litigation trends. We also encourage submissions addressing the governance of AI-driven data systems, the protection of health data beyond clinical settings, children’s online privacy, the ethics of facial recognition and surveillance technologies, and the broader social justice dimensions of digital privacy law. By gathering interdisciplinary voices from law, policy, and industry, this symposium seeks to foster a critical dialogue on how legal institutions can respond to fast-evolving privacy threats and opportunities in a global digital society.

The event will bring together legal scholars, practitioners, technologists, and policymakers to discuss the direction of data and tech regulation in the United States and beyond. MJLST encourages submissions that reflect a wide range of viewpoints and experiences.

Selected presenters will be invited to participate in the symposium, which will be held in Spring 2026. While publication is not required, MJLST may consider outstanding submissions for publication in Volume 27, pending editorial review and space availability.

To apply, please submit a current CV and an abstract of no more than 1,000 words outlining your proposal. Submissions should be sent to mjlst@umn.edu with the subject line: Symposium Submission - [Your Last Name]. We encourage submissions by late December 2025, to ensure we have time to confirm speakers and begin promotion over winter break. For questions, please contact symposium editor Yanan Tang at tang0856@umn.edu. We look forward to your proposals and hope to see you at the symposium!
